Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Pakistani automobile and motorcycle production and marketing subsidiary, Pak Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd., produced its millionth automobile in May. The company held a commemorative event at the Pak Suzuki’s plant on 1 August. Guests included Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and the Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan, Chihiro Atsumi.

Pak Suzuki began automobile production with the Fronte in September 1982 and has since also produced a number of other models including the Carry Truck, Carry Van, Cultus1, Alto, and Jimny mainly for the Pakistani domestic market. It reached the million-unit milestone in about 26 years.

Suzuki now enjoys an automobile market share of more than 50%2 in Pakistan, and it views the country as a strategically vital overseas automobile production and marketing base alongside India, Hungary, Indonesia, and China. Pak Suzuki’s production and marketing have also included motorcycles since October 2007, when the company merged with motorcycle distributor Suzuki Motorcycles Pakistan Limited.

  1. The Cultus is the previous-generation Swift.
  2. Suzuki’s share of the Pakistani automobile market in fiscal 2008 was 56.7%.

NISSAN LAUNCHES NEW ERA FOR COMPANY, NEW ERA FOR MOBILITY

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Inauguration of new Nissan Global Headquarters symbolizes company’s commitment to environment and zero-emission mobility

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today returned to its historic roots in Yokohama, Japan, with the opening of a new global headquarters building, designed with the environment in mind and specifically focused on low CO2 emissions and energy conservation.

In conjunction with the opening ceremony, the company also unveiled Nissan LEAF, the world’s first affordable, zero-emission car designed to satisfy real-world consumer requirements, including a range of more than 160 km (100 miles) per charge. Nissan LEAF will launch in Japan, the United States, and Europe in late 2010.

“The symbolism of our new headquarters is inescapable,” said Nissan President and CEO, Carlos Ghosn. “As we return to where Nissan was founded in 1933, we celebrate a new era for our company and a new era for mobility. This is a very significant day as we look with hope and confidence toward our future.”

Joining Ghosn for the opening ceremony were former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, Kanagawa Prefecture Governor Shigefumi Matsuzawa and Yokohama City Mayor Hiroshi Nakada.

Environmentally, the new headquarters has already been awarded the highest “S Rank” rating by the Japanese CASBEE organization (Comprehensive Assessment System For Building Environmental Efficiency), and will reduce CO2 emissions by more than 27 percent compared to Nissan’s former headquarters in Ginza, Tokyo, as well as conserve energy by effectively harnessing natural resources.
