New Cat Quarry Truck Body Delivers Extended Life and Lower Costs

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Caterpillar has developed a new hardened steel Quarry Body for select models of Cat trucks to extend wear life and decrease cost per ton in appropriate applications. The Quarry Body features 400 Brinnell steel, which resists abrasion and provides superior durability without additional weight or liner systems. Eliminating the need for liners also eliminates the replacement costs and downtime associated with their maintenance.

The Quarry Body is designed to handle low to medium density materials that have low to medium abrasiveness. Such materials include limestone, some sandstones and slate. On the Mohs hardness scale, materials should be limited to a maximum of 5.5 to 6.0. The Quarry Body is ideally suited to limestone quarries where oversize stone is no larger than 0.6 to 0.9 meter (2 to 3 feet) in diameter. In such applications, the 25-mm-thick floor delivers superior service life.

The Quarry Body flat floor configuration enables the operator to meter loads when feeding crushers. The flat floor body retains loads well when hauling on roads with grades in the 8 to 12 percent range.

The new body is being introduced for the Cat 770, 772 and 775F rigid-frame trucks. The payload class of each truck model, respectively, is 36 tonnes (40 tons), 46 tonnes (50 tons) and 64 tonnes (70 tons).

Complete Portables Stays Ahead With Hino

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

A progressive West Australian portable building hire specialist has renewed its delivery fleet with seven new Hino trucks.

It is the third time in Complete Portables’ 16-year history that it has bought an all-Hino fleet.

The Perth-based company commissioned the seven Hinos to deliver its range of portable offices, accommodation and toilets.

The seven trucks consist of six Hino 500 models and one Hino 300 - six with cranes and one tilt tray.

There are four Hino FD 1024s, one GD 1227, one GH 1727 and one 300 Series Wide Cab 716.

Company founder and principal Emanuel Dillon said he renewed his truck fleet one year ahead of schedule, to stay a step ahead of the competition and to have the most environmentally friendly fleet in the industry.

“Complete Portables was the first portable building supplier in the West with a fleet of new trucks and the first to have its staff in uniforms,” he said.

“It’s all part of offering a better product and better service.

“We initially bought new trucks to ensure greater reliability. The combination of the new trucks and company uniforms helped attract better staff and was soon reflected with improved service to customers.”

Emanuel Dillon said he has continued to purchase new Hino trucks based on reliability and a strong relationship with his dealer WA Hino.

“We pride ourselves on loyalty in this company and we have a fantastic relationship with Paul McGovern and his WA Hino team - notably the back up from his service team,” he said.

Complete Portables has its headquarters in Malaga, a service depot in Wattleup and a Sydney depot at Ingleburn.

It regularly hires buildings in the greater Perth area as far north as Lancelin and as far south as Bunbury.

Hino offers three major truck series - 300, 500 and 700 - all with turbocharged and intercooled direct-injection diesel engines.

Complete Portables’ four Hino FD 1027 trucks have a GVM of 10,400kg and a 7.7-litre Hino turbocharged and intercooled direct-injection engine that delivers 190kW of power at 2500rpm and 794Nm of torque at 1500rpm.

Standard equipment includes ABS anti-skid brakes, cruise control, Hino Easy Start-Take-off Assist and airbag rear suspension.

Tata Ace becomes India’s first 1-lakh brand in goods commercial vehicles

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

The Tata Ace has become India’s first 1-lakh brand in goods commercial vehicles.

In 2009-10, the sales of the Tata Ace crossed the 1-lakh mark to reach 110,032 units. It has thus become India’s only goods commercial vehicle to achieve the milestone.

The Tata Ace was launched in May 2005 as India’s first mini-truck with a sub-one tonne payload. Starting with sales of about 30,000 units in 2005-06, its footprint more than doubled in 2006-07 to over 70,000 and further grew to over 89,000 units in 2007-08. Even in 2008-09, a year impacted by the downturn in the commercial vehicles industry, the Tata Ace clocked sales of over 81,000 units.

With brand extensions, the Tata Ace portfolio now comprises the Ace, the Ace HT, the Ace Ex (with stop-start technology) and the Super Ace (I tonne).

In June 2007, Tata Motors had launched the Tata Magic, developed on the Ace platform, as a comfortable and safe four-wheeler for public transportation. The Tata Magic too is recording strong adoption in semi-urban and rural areas, and in 2009-10 its sales have touched close to 49,000 units, a growth of 71% over the previous year.

Taken together, sales of the Tata Ace and Tata Magic have crossed 150,000 units in 2009-10.

Hino Strengthens Nsw Fire-Fighting Ranks

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) has ushered in a new era of fire-fighting capability with the delivery of three new Hino 500 trucks purpose-built as bulk water carriers.

The new trucks are the first production prototypes for the service’s new Category 13 tanker and are capable of carrying 11,000 litres of water in a single load.

The FM 2627 6 X 4 models have the legendary JO8E diesel matched to a nine-speed all-synchromesh gearbox driving through Hino 20,000 kg differentials on 6-rod rear suspension. This specification exceeded the criteria across the board and in particular impressed RFS engineers with its robust design.

NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said the Hino bulk tankers filled an important gap in the Service’s fleet upgrade program and added a new dimension to its fire-fighting capability.

“More than two years of engineering and development have culminated in the delivery of these ground-breaking new vehicles,” he said.

“We’ve long needed a purpose-built bulk water carrier that can refill frontline fire-fighting trucks and aircraft in areas where a lack of water supply prevents crews from quickly controlling a bushfire.

“We needed a truck that was not only easy to operate, but one that was reliable and efficient, with low emissions.

“Our fire-fighting vehicles traditionally have a lifespan of around 25 years, so it’s also important our trucks are easy to maintain.

“Now that we’ve completed the initial prototypes, any brigades across the state requiring bulk water capability can apply for a new Category 13 tanker,” Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.

The new trucks will operate with only one or two crew, and are fitted with a portable “buoy wall” static water dam.

The inflatable “buoy wall” forms a makeshift dam that can hold up to 30,000 litres of water. This allows multiple tankers and aircraft access to water in even the most remote locations.

Chairman and Chief Executive of Hino Australia Kenichi Sekine presented Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons with the trucks at a ceremony at Homebush Bay.

Hino Australia divisional manager of sales and marketing Bram Van Der Shaar said Hino looked forward to working closely with the RFS.

“It has been an excellent opportunity for us to provide trucks for this program, and we look forward to strengthening our strategic relationship in the future,” he said.

The first three trucks will be delivered to brigades at Tabourie, Balranald and Wentworth.
