Caterpillar has developed a new hardened steel Quarry Body for select models of Cat trucks to extend wear life and decrease cost per ton in appropriate applications. The Quarry Body features 400 Brinnell steel, which resists abrasion and provides superior durability without additional weight or liner systems. Eliminating the need for liners also eliminates the replacement costs and downtime associated with their maintenance.
The Quarry Body is designed to handle low to medium density materials that have low to medium abrasiveness. Such materials include limestone, some sandstones and slate. On the Mohs hardness scale, materials should be limited to a maximum of 5.5 to 6.0. The Quarry Body is ideally suited to limestone quarries where oversize stone is no larger than 0.6 to 0.9 meter (2 to 3 feet) in diameter. In such applications, the 25-mm-thick floor delivers superior service life.
The Quarry Body flat floor configuration enables the operator to meter loads when feeding crushers. The flat floor body retains loads well when hauling on roads with grades in the 8 to 12 percent range.
The new body is being introduced for the Cat 770, 772 and 775F rigid-frame trucks. The payload class of each truck model, respectively, is 36 tonnes (40 tons), 46 tonnes (50 tons) and 64 tonnes (70 tons).
